The province of Catanduanes claimed its first Magayagaya award during the 8th Salud Bicolnon 2017 last December 4, 2017 at Naga City, Camarines Sur for its achievement and support to the programs of the Department of Health (DOH).
The annual recognition and awarding ceremony was a program of the DOH, recognizing the Best Practices and Initiatives by different partners in health program implementation during the C.Y. 2016 – 2017.

“I express my gratitude to the Department of Health for recognizing the efforts that we, as a local government, contribute to the development of our respective provinces in terms of implementing the various programs on public health”, said Governor Joseph Cua in his acceptance speech.
The local chief also added that the Salud Bicolnon award does not only recognize the efforts of one person, rather it recognizes the collective labours and dedication of work for the betterment of the province.
“Our heart beats for every Catandunganon who is in need. It is a small community where everybody knows everyone and is concerned about his neighbour”, added Gov Cua.
Juan M. Alberto District Hospital in San Andres also received Red Orchid Award and was also awarded as Best Implementer on Innovative on Healthy Lifestyle. The district hospital will receive 125,000 and 50,000 pesos.
The municipal government of Viga was also a Hall of Fame awardee. Among the top performing local government units in the implementation of PHA annual health check up were the municipalities of Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Baras, Virac and Viga.
Tinago Day Care Center of Viga, Catanduanes was awarded with 1st prize Orally Fit Day Care Center. Viga also won as the Best Implementer of National TB Control Program (municipal category) and will receive 100,000 pesos.
Meanwhile, the DepEd-Division of Catanduanes was among the awardees of the Highest Coverage School-Based Immunization Program (School Level) and the Provincial Health Office in LGU category.
Melissa Banzuela of Catanduanes was among the recipients of Best implementer of Provincial/Rural Health Midwives Placement Program while Sherwin Icawat was among the awardees of the Best Provincial Nurse Deployment Program.
Catanduanes Eye Center and Eastern Bicol Medical Center received Surgical Caravan award.
LGUs who exemplified outstanding performance and accomplishments in implementing health and heath related programs, policies and laws are recognized in Salud Bicolnon.

The Magayagaya Award comes with a check worth P500, 000 which will be utilized for the betterment of health services and facilities in the province.
