The Provincial Government of Catanduanes was one of the recipients of the Gawad Parangal given by the Catanduanes State University at CSU Auditorium on Thursday night, Oct. 19.
The award is a manifestation of CSU’s immense gratitude to the unwavering and generous support to the college students of the institutionthrough the scholarship program granted by its benefactors.
Governor Joseph C. Cua represented by Provincial Information Officer II Joshua Paul Araojo received the prestigious award in behalf of the provincial government along with other recipients such as the ARDCIBANK, INC. – A Rural Bank, ARDCI Microfinance Inc., Bicol National Association of America (BNAA) Incorporated, Provincial Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PROVEMCO), Municipal Government Unit of Virac, and CARITAS Virac Justice and Peace, Inc. (Youth Servant Leadership Education Program).
Dr. Minerva I. Morales, SUC President III of CSUunderscored that the celebration is to give honor and pay tribute to the outstanding and selfless men and women who gave devoted service and generous support to the university and for what it has become.
“Therefore, today’s Gawad Parangal is a recognition ceremony of heroes and achievers,” she said.
Morales proudly presented that the university has produced 96 top placers in the PRC licensure examinations since 1979.
She disclosed that the civil engineering program had producedtwenty–nine (29) topplacers of which three (3) were top one, midwifery programs had thirty-one (31)top placers, while teacher education program hadtwenty-five (25), nursing program with eight (8), agriculture with three (3), accountancy with one (1) and also one (1)inmaster plumber.
“Of the 96 board placers, 53 of the record occurred from 2011 to 2016,”she added.
In his message read by the Provincial Information Officer II Araojo, Governor Cua remarked that to be considered as a Gawad Parangal recipient is such an honor and an inspiration to do better in giving the youth the privilege in attaining quality education and lead them to the bright future that awaits them.
“Through this scholarship program, I believe that one day, Catanduanes will be known for producing intelligent, talented, and efficient individuals that many people will look up on us on how this small island can produce amazing individuals that have the ability to do big things” he said.
Cua was grateful for the award and humbly accepted it not only for himself but for the total of 2,297 scholars who are recipients of the financial assistance and the people who are with him in leading the province.
The local chief executive assured of his never-ending support not just for the students but for the whole populace of Catanduanes.
Araojo also shared the plan of the provincial government to cater scholarship for students who want to take upmedicine and law.
The Gawad Parangal is in line with the 5th Foundation Anniversary of the Catanduanes State Universitysince its conversioninto a university on October 19, 2012 by virtue of Republic Act 10229which was authored by Congressman Cesar V. Sarmiento.
Other Gawad Parangal Awardees of CSU were the retirees, service awardees and past members of the board of regents for their significant contribution in the institution, as well asthe alumni for embodying the ideals of their alma mater and for exhibiting competence and excellence in their respective professions.
