The Provincial School Board (PSB) led by Governor Joseph C. Cua recently gave its nod on the P13M Special Education Fund (SEF) for 2018 prioritizing the Sports Development with P9.7M allocated budget in preparation for the upcoming Palarong Bicol.
Included also under the Sports Development to be funded by the SEF are the continuing fund (sports equipment, training for the whole year), the Palarong Panlalawigan, incentive for the qualifiers for the Palarong Pambansa and maintenance of athletic complex and swimming pool.
In a meeting at the Office of the Governor Conference Room last Dec. 27, 2017 Schools Division Superintendent Socorro Dela Rosa told the board that they have intention to send athletes to other events other than those events that they have participated in last year.
They have suggested for an augmentation considering that the budget for food, amounting only to P300 per athlete for three meals and two snacks is not sufficient for the actual participation in the Palarong Bicol for ten days.
Dr. Dela Rosa assured that department will not only lean on the SEF because the Department of Education (DepEd) is also downloading fund for construction and repair of school buildings, educational research, and procurement of reference materials and books.
The Schools Division will be sending 424 athletes with 204 coaches and delegates that will be participating in 23 events in elementary (boys and girls), 33 events in secondary (boys and girls), and 6 events in Paralympics (boys and girls) in the Palarong Bicol.
All Programs, Projects and Activities (PPAs) approved by the PSB are based on the revised guidelines on the utilization of SEF to ensure the efficient use of resources in the development and implementation of priority PPAs in the education sector.
Since the province’s ranking in the Palarong Bicol has no improvement because of limiting our athletes, they decided on adding more events.
