1st Abaca Hag-ot Festival

The Winning Team. Participants of St. Therese parish grandiosely exhibit  the way of life of abaca strippers through their colorful props with the touch of abaca and traditional dance mimicking the movements on how abaca is produced.

 

Described as the grandest and the biggest fiesta celebration of the Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, the Local Government Unit  of San Miguel highlighted their 66th founding anniversary and town fiesta  with the launching of the 1st Abaca Hag-ot Festival highlighted by the streetdance competition and exhibition participated by two parishes and two mission churches.

Hon. Francisco Camano Jr. the municipal mayor of San Miguel said that the event is the product of the unity, cooperation and active participation of the LGU and the different organizations.

“Maski kang enot igwa ng alog  kaining activity, nagdagdag  lang yung street dance competition. Mas dakul buda mas bongga yung celebration ngunian,”Camano said.

Deeply-rooted Faith.Queen of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish is   carrying her patron saint  dancing in full grace with her  indigenous abaca attire.

 

The streetdance competition and exhibition are participated by Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, Saints Louis and Zellie Parish, and mission churches of San Jose Maria Escriba (Obo) and Saint Therese of Child Jesus (Pagsangahan).

Camano  expressed his gratitude to all the people who made the event successful highlighting the importance of cooperation of every individual and organizations who actively participated and did their part.

“Magtuluwangan sana kita para sa pag-uswag kan satong banwa,” Camano said.

Contingents from St. Therese was declared champion with their performance which wowed the audience with their picture perfect choreography that went with festive music.

Mimicking the life of abaca strippers, the team also showed a true-to-life story of San Miguel folks standing despite the atrocities that test their faith and personality.

Meanwhile, Saint Michael The Archangel Parish was hailed 1st runner up, San Jose Maria Escriba Mission Church (OBO) clinched the 2nd runner up while  Sts. Louis and Zellie (Mabato)  with the 3rd spot.

Moreover, San Miguel Parish was awarded as Best in Moving Choreography and Best in Costume while Saint Therese was hailed as Best in Music.

The champion received 30, 000.00,1st runner up – 20, 000.00, 2nd runner – 15, 000.00 and 3rd runner up – 10, 000.00 while special awards also received 5,000.00.

Part of the three-week celebration are basketball and volleyball tournament, marathon, employee’s  night, Search for Binibining San Miguel,abaca symposium and agro-fair,  job fair, abaca exhibit and the civic parade.

One million pesos was allocated in the whole celebration of the town fiesta which was participated by public officials, teachers, police personnel, community defense reservist personnel, nurses, midwives,  students, tricycle drivers, abaca farmers, youth pastoral forum officers and members, barangay pastoral council memblers and officials.

This year’s theme is “Hag-ot nin Abaca: Matibay na Pagbuhay, Kusog kan Sakong Banwa.”
