EMPOWERING HOUSEKEEPING PERSONNEL: Guest Speaker Dr. Freddie A. Quinto elaborates housekeeping procedures and standards to the housekeeping professionals, supervisors, managers and attendants in the accommodation course through video presentations and informative lectures.
Spearheaded by the Provincial Tourism Office of Catanduanes, a seminar training entitled “Course on Housekeeping ASEAN Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professionals” was launched April 30 until May 6, 2018 at Lucky Hotel and Resort.
42 participants attended a seminar organized by the Provincial Tourism Office of Catanduanes titled Course on Housekeeping ASEAN Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professionals (ACCSTP) at Lucky Hotel and Resort from April 30 up to May 6, 2018
The seminar is aimed to empower the tourism sector of the island specifically the services offered by different accommodation institution. The invited trainees are composed of housekeeping professionals including attendants of the room, public area and laundry department, supervisors, and managers in the accommodation course.
“Napakahelpful po ng seminar kasi maraming na-discuss na mga practices or routines na yung ibang hotel ay di nasusunod o kaya di aware yung mga staffs. And at the same time, applicable rin po kahit sa maintenance ng cleanliness sa bahay,” one participant stated.
Guest speaker Dr. Freddie A. Quinto, Assistant Professor II at the University of Santo Tomas – College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, reiterated the need to increase the tourism receipts in the island by improving the housekeeping aspect of hotels and inns.
“We believe that tourists decide to stay and comeback to a destination because they’re satisfied. This seminar baffles to inculcate to the stakeholders that it’s not just the destination that matters, it’s the service,” the guest speaker affirms.
Dr. Quinto further elaborated that the status of the housekeeping department of hotels in Catanduanes is still in its early stages and he hopes the training will embark the participants to come back to their organizations equipped with knowledge, skills and the right attitude in housekeeping services.
“So the goal is really to level up in terms of their commitment to the promotion of tourism by addressing issues on guest satisfaction,” he remarked.
Modular approach is usedin the seminar. For Day 1, the topic is Housekeeping in the Broader Picture of a Hospitality Establishment focusing in the nature of hotels and the roles of the housekeeping department. Day 2 tackled about Principles and Practice of cleaning mainly concerned in the process, equipment and materials used and the procedures of cleaning the hotel premises.
Meanwhile, Day 3 and Day 4 combined two topics which are Guest Rooms, Room Components and Key together with Housekeeping Trolley Management for the formerand Clean Public Areas and Laundry Functions and Linen Management for the latter mentioned Housekeeping Services and other Duties which is centered on guest services is elaborated on Day 5 while Day 6 continues with Occupational Health Safety Standards in Housekeeping concentrating on hygiene practices, first aid, and risk scenario in hotels.
A mock assessment for TESDA NC Certificationends the training with distribution of TESDA forms, presentations and assessment, and distribution of training certificates.
The 7-day training is designed to endow direct stakeholders and attendants in the accommodation sector to provide the best service for tourists in terms of sanitation, maintenance of facilities and aesthetics of the accommodation.
