abacatanduanes launching

FOR THE ABACALEROS. Catanduanes Officials took part in the launching of AbaCatanduanes website during the 6th Abaca Festival celebration last May 24-30, 2022.

The Department of Science and Technology-Provincial Science and Technology Center (DOST-PSTC) together with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), and Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) officially launched AbaCatanduanes website last May 26, 2022.

AbaCatanduanes is an online registration of abacaleros aimed to identify and collate Catanduanes abacaleros and widen awareness of the different facets of the industry.

It will offer simple access to essential information, news, projects and activities on abaca. It could also assist establish connections between the Abacaleros and stakeholders, investors, and scholars.

Present on this significant occasion were Governor Joseph C. Cua, Mr. Roberto Lusuergo, Provincial Fiber Officer, Engr. Marie Grace Molina, PSTC Director – Catanduanes, Ms. Nelia Teves, Provincial Agriculturist, Mr. Mario John Gonzales of DICT, Ms. Maria Belma Escote of DTI, Ms. Abelisa D. Evangelista of CatSU, Heads and Representatives of Municipal Agriculture Offices, OPAG and DOST staff.

Recently, Catanduanes was declared as Abaca Capital of the Philippines, in honor of its status as the country’s biggest producer of abaca and making the Philippines world-renowned as “Manila Hemp” in the fiber sector, and in support of the agricultural development of the province.

In his statement, Cua expressed his gratitude to the website developers and everyone involved behind the making of the website.

“An event niato ngunyan patunay na an sentro kan satuyang okasyon iyo an satuyang Abacaleros. The website is FOR THEM. The website is, as a matter of fact, a crucial endeavor for a purpose that is often overlooked—identification of each and every single abacaleros in Catanduanes.” he stated.
