To inspire young farmers in their appreciation to farm tourism. 4Hers from different municipalities of Catanduanes together with Ms. Nelia Teves, provincial agriculturist and Ms. Mary Joy O. Balbin, FYDP coordinator during the closing ceremony and awarding of winners during the 4H Provincial Achievement Day on April 22, 2019 at Catanduanes Convention Center.
Acting Governor Shirley A. Abundo praised the 4 Hers from the different municipalities of Catanduanes during the annual 4H Provincial Achievement Day for supporting the industry of agriculture in the country.
In her message, Hon. Abundo expressed her gratitude that despite the advancements in technology, there are still youth who are persistent in sustaining farming in the country.
“I’m very proud na mayroong katulad ninyong kabataan na nagmamalasakit sa bansa natin na handang tumulong para umasenso ang buhay nating lahat,” she said.
“Sana pag-abot ning panahon, medyo modernized na rin tayo para ma-relax na kayo, kasi ang hirap po talaga na magsaka [yung mga ginagawa niyo under the heat of the sun] kasi may mga modernong pamamaraan na rin,” she added.
Various contests are conducted to showcase the skills of 4H club members in different events such as Himig Handog Songwriting Competition, Spoken Poetry, Quiz Bee, On-the-Spot Canvass Painting, Terrarium (Glass Gardening), Promotional Video Making Contest and Cacao Based Food Processing and Packaging Technology contest (Pasalubong Package).
Moreover, Ms. Nelia Teves, provincial agriculturist and guest speaker in the said event, reiterated the keys to sustain organizations in barangays like 4H club.
“In this modern age may mga cellphone and mahilig tayo mag-post and mag-selfie, bakit hindi natin gamitin in a more useful way?” she challenged the members.
“Magselfie tayo na ang background mga tanim or produkto natin, then post natin sa fb. In that way, we are advertising and marketing our products,” she added.
Additionally, various contests were also conducted to showcase the skills of the members in different events. The winners were:
Himig Handog (Songwriting Competition) 1st place – Mark Lawrence B. Hadap (Gigmoto); 2nd place – Mariel Mendoza (Baras); 3rd place – Faith Torio (Viga).
Spoken Poetry 1st place – Sarah Todoc (Viga); 2nd place – Gino Antonio T. Lakanlake (Gigmoto); 3rd place – Jamaica M. Flores (San Miguel).
Quiz Bee 1st place – Airriesh Shin J. Ruel (Pandan); 2nd place – Manilyn de Jesus (Viga); 3rd place – Kayceelyn M. Tapia (Baras).
On-the-Spot Canvass Painting 1st place – Jemarie Tomaniog (Viga); 2nd place – Jose Miguel Tendencia (Baras); 3rd place – Juine Tabios (Virac).
Terrarium (Glass Gardening) 1st place – Mark Daryl T. Sorreda (Virac); 2nd place –Ramil Pica (Baras); 3rd place – Kristal Mae S. Tabirao (San Miguel).
Jamaica M. Flores of San Miguel also bagged 1st place in the Promotional Video Making Contest while Donrick Tayas of Bato clinches 1st place in Cacao Based Food Processing and Packaging Technology contest (Pasalubong Package).
Winners were awarded certificates and cash.
Furthermore, Viga was hailed as the overall champion; Baras as 1st runner up; San Miguel as 2nd runner up and; Bato as 3rd runner up.
The event was attended by 4H club members and municipal agriculturists from the different municipalities in Catanduanes.
4H Provincial Achievement Day is an annual activity which aims to inspire young farmers in their appreciation to farm tourism, as well as develop their social, physical and leadership skills.
This year’s activity is anchored on the theme, “Bida 4H: Bringing Innovation and Development in Agriculture through 4H club.”
The 1st place winners will advance to the 6th Bicol 4-H Youth Camp which will be held on April 28-30, 2019 at ATI-RTC 5, San Agustin, Pili, Camarines Sur.
