Catanduanes bags 2nd consecutive Magayagaya award - Image

Gov. Joseph C. Cua, together with Dr. Hazel Palmes and Dr. Franchette Panti, receives the province’s second Salud Bikolnon Magayagaya Award trophy and check. The award is in recognition of the provincial government’s steadfast efforts in supporting quality delivery of hospital and medical services for its people.

The provincial local government unit (PLGU) of Catanduanes was once again acknowledged for its best practices and initiatives in health program implementation after receiving its 2nd consecutive Magayagaya Award, during the 9th Salud Bikolnon Awards last December 07 at the Legazpi City Convention Center.

Aside from bagging the highest award this year, Catanduanes also received the Purple Ribbon Award for Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health (RPRH) and was hailed as the 3rd best implementer of the said health program, Rabies-Free Zone/Area Award alongside the eleven municipalities, and Best Mental Health Program Implementation Award.

Moreover, municipal local government units (LGUs), district hospitals, health personnel and rural health units (RHUs) of the province were also recognized during the awards night.

The local government unit of Bagamanoc was awarded 4th place of Green Achiever Award and 3rd best implementer of Purple Ribbon Award for RPRH, and will receive P 100,000 and P 300,000 for both awards.

Juan M. Alberto Memorial District Hospital in San Andres also received the Red Orchid Award and P 150,000 cash incentive.

Governor Joseph Cua, in his acceptance speech, thanked all the health workers and barangay and municipal local government units for dedicating their time and effort to improve the health services in the province.

“This award is like a water or a bar of chocolate to a mountain climber. This is an extra push, an extra energy that will booster our commitment in the vision of a Healthy People of a Healthy Island,” he said.

The annual recognition and awarding ceremony, spearheaded by Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Bicol, is given to the LGUs and local health partners to acknowledge their good and exemplary practices in local governance, and in recognition of their contribution in improving the health situation in the region.

“This is our second consecutive Magayagaya Awards, and we intend to not stop,” the local chief executive stated.

“We are not yet on the peak of our climb, but we are getting there. We will continue to climb carrying with us the hope for a healthier province,” he added.
