Catanduanes Government

Rather than giving back, newly selected Catandunganon Scholars should pay it forward and towards the community, these are the words of Dr. Patrick Azanza, Catanduanes State University (CatSU) President during the Memorandum of Agreement Signing Program, July 29, 2021 at the lobby of the Provincial Capitol.

Newly selected Medicine and Law scholars should not worry about giving back to the provincial government, but should focus on paying forward to the community, Dr. Patrick Azanza, President of the Catanduanes State University (CatSU) said in a message.

“Dai niyo dapat pagparaisipon ang pagbalik sa kung sisay ang nakatao saindo, para sa sakuya importante ang konsepto ng paying forward,” Azanza reminded the seven scholars who qualified for the Provincial Local Government Unit’s (PLGU) scholarship program.

As underscored in Provincial Ordinance No. 010-2021 or the “Ordinance Institutionalizing the Special Higher Education Scholarship Program for Catandunganons,” all grantees of the scholarship shall render mandatory service to the PLGU for at least one year for every scholarship year they have availed.

However, Azanza told the scholars in his speech during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement program, held July 29, 2021, at the Provincial Capitol Building, that there is no need for them to give back to the individuals behind the scholarship program, but instead, they should pay what they have learned forward and towards other people.

“Maabot ang panahon na kamo na ang makatabang sa iba, gibuhon niyo tabi iyan,” the president, who was also a scholar during his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in the University of the Philippines said.

Furthermore, Azanza told the scholars to consider their scholarships as a reminder for them to always choose to help and push forward those people who are in difficult situations as well.

“May mahihinagbuan kamo na kapareho niyo kaidto; a child asking for help, an adult wanting to fulfill a dream, make sure to remember this event, and pay forward,” he concluded.
