GRACEFUL ENTRANCE. Catanduanes State University Laboratory High School DLC members start their performance with a fluid entrance, well-poised stance and graceful movements.
Four years since its last Drum and Lyre Corps (DLC) competition lordship, the Catanduanes State University Laboratory High School (CSU – Lab HS) still proved its might as it was hailed champion in the recently concluded Drum and Lyre Corps Competition in this year’s festivities.
Despite having only three days to prepare, the school still managed to outshine eight other contingent schools from all over the province.
According to Marianne Angelique Aldea, one of the majorette members of the group, in order to maximize their limited time in rehearsing, they spent almost 12 hours in practicing their exhibition from 7:00 in the morning until 8:00 PM.
“Hindi po talaga namin inexpect na kami ang mananalo kasi konting time lang po yung prinactice namin,” she expressed.
“Ang key po namin para manalo is discipline and hardwork,” she said when asked about their winning formula.
CSU Lab HS received 20,000 pesos as prize.
Following CSU Lab HS, San Jose National High School from the municipality of Viga was declared 1st runner up and received 15,000 pesos; while Bugao National High School from Bagamanoc won 2nd runner up and received 10,000 pesos.
Other schools that joined the competition were Catanduanes National High School, Bato Rural Development High School, Baras Rural Development High School, San Miguel Rural Development High School, San Andres Vocational School and Catanduanes Colleges-High School Department.
All of them received consolation prizes worth 5,000 pesos each.
The criteria for judging included Drum and Lyre Composition or Musicality-50%; Interpretation of Composition- 20%; Overall Performance- 20%; and Costume-10%, for a total of 100%.

The competition was open exclusively to all secondary schools in the province with a total of not less than 50 members including majorette corps per school to perform the exhibition in not less than five minutes and not exceeding seven minutes including entrance and exit.
This was sponsored by the Department of Education – Division of Catanduanes in coordination with the Provincial Local Government Unit. It was held at the Catanduanes Convention Center.
