Governor Joseph Cua encouraged teachers from the municipality of Virac to continue learning and pursue post graduate studies and apply to the recently approved scholarship program.

This was Gov Joseph C. Cua’s message to the teachers from the municipality of Virac during the Municipal Teachers Assembly last August 8, 2018.

In his speech, Governor Joseph Cua expressed his admiration for the work done by the teachers and the need to tackle problems arising in the classrooms’ normal setting.

“There are many concerns of the teachers which we haven’t heard of and may this gathering be an avenue for every one of you here to brought up your concerns and be addressed accordingly… I can never fathom the kind of sacrifices and challenges you go through just to fulfill your duties in ensuring quality education to our young ones,” Governor Cua added.

With the theme: Listening to the Voice of Educators, the 1-day assembly served as an open camp in bringing up and discussing common problems experienced in the classrooms and the public schools in the municipality of Virac as a whole.

Some of the issues raised during the open forum are questions regarding the proceeds and the right personnel of the school to manage the Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) during the school year, explanation why school heads are always in the Division office or in other places instead of being in their respective school assignments and other fluctuates in the educational system in the mentioned municipality.

In an interview, Ms. Giselle Trapago, an English teacher in Catanduanes National High School, expressed her positive view with the open question and feedback during the forum.

“Constructive man… Pigraise lang su issues na dapat taw-an ning pansin. Para sa ako, ang advantage kang event na ito, nagraise ning awareness sa itaas (the Division office) kung anong nangyayari sa ibaba (the schools),” she says.

50 schools from the Municipality of Virac attended the said seminar. Present in the forum are personnel of the DepEd – Division of Catanduanes: Schools Division Superintendent Socorro V. Dela Rosa, Officer-In-Charge Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Ma. Luisa T. Dela Rosa, Chief Education Supervisor – Curriculum Implementation Division Josefa V. Zape, Chief Education Supervisor – School Governance and Operations Division Miguel C. Ogalinola, Education Program Supervisor (Private Schools) Gina L. Custodio; Education Program Supervisor in ESP Frankie T. Turalde, Education Program Supervisor in English Gina B. Pantino, Education Program Supervisor in Araling Panlipunan Cynthia T. Soneja, and Education Program Supervisor in MAPEH Nelson T. Sicio.
